The Nature Conservancy's Davis Mountains Preserve (DMP) is a wildlife refuge in the highest country of the Davis Mountains in far west Texas. This sky island is a unique ecosystem harboring plants and wildlife that are seen in few, if any, other places in Texas, including Ponderosa Pine and Quaking Aspen, Montezuma Quail, Mountain Short-Horned Lizards, and Mexican Black Bears.

EVENT DETAILS

We are pleased to offer a Guided Tour Day of the DMP which includes a presentation on The Nature Conservancy's work in West Texas, a driving tour of the preserve, and an interpretive hike.

  • Hiking Difficulty: Easy to Hard, tailored to each group.
  • Maximum Participants: 12
  • Please bring a sack lunch to enjoy on the preserve.
  • Other Supplies You Will Need: good hiking shoes, hiking poles, water, snacks, binoculars (if you have them)
  • Cost: This event is FREE

Please note:

  • NO PETS
  • A 4WD HIGH CLEARANCE VEHICLE IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS EVENT, BUT IF YOU HAVE ONE, FEEL FREE TO BRING IT
  • Drones are not permitted
  • Bring plenty of food and water. Pack everything in/out 
  • You can expect a typical mountain climate: mild with unpredictable weather, so please check the forecast, prepare appropriately, and assume nothing
  • Cell service not available on preserve
