EVENT DETAILS

The Nature Conservancy's Marathon Grasslands Preserve is a 2,701-acre preserve in the northern part of the Marathon Basin region that represents some of the most diverse Chihuahuan Desert grassland habitat in Texas and supports a wide array of wildlife, including migratory raptors and grassland birds, pronghorn, kit foxes, burrowing owls, golden eagles, the federally endangered northern aplomado falcon, and a portion of the largest black-tailed prairie dog town in the Trans-Pecos. We are offering special, led tours of this beautiful grassland preserve. The tour will consist of easy walking and driving on the preserve.

REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS: Registration is required.

VISITOR CAPACITY: 30 guests.

WHEN: The Marathon Grasslands Preserve will be open for a led morning tour (9:00am - 12:00pm) on Friday, July 19, 2024.

HOW: You’re doing it! Make a reservation here and receive a follow up email with directions and instructions for the day. 

COST: This event is FREE.

Please note:

  • A high clearance vehicle is REQUIRED to enter the preserve
  • NO PETS
  • Bring BINOCULARS, if you have them!
  • Drones are not permitted
  • Bring plenty of WATER and snacks. Pack everything in/out
  • Cell service is spotty on the preserve
  • Close-toed shoes recommended
  • There is a bathroom available at the preserve
