Tell Congress: Defend the Land and Water Conservation Fund
For 60 years, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) has protected millions of acres of critical natural landscapes in every county in the United States. But now the Department of Interior is trying to put up roadblocks for projects and divert and eliminate LWCF funding that's intended to protect new public lands, national parks and other public conservation lands.
This move would put our treasured lands, waters and wildlife habitats at risk for development and other threats — and have a devastating impact right now and for future generations. It also would violate the Great American Outdoors Act, passed by President Trump in 2020.
Call on your elected leaders in Congress now to defend the Land and Water Conservation Fund and urge the Administration not to weaken this critical conservation tool.
This message will be delivered to:
Your U.S. Senators
Your U.S. Representative
I urge you to oppose any efforts to undo the Land and Water Conservation Fund or create new roadblocks for critical LWCF projects.
LWCF's benefits are fundamental to all American's way of life, providing clean air and water, creating jobs and supporting strong local economies. The federal government has a responsibility to protect America's natural landscapes. When the government helps care for nature, it also sees a huge return on investment. Public lands and the outdoor recreation industry support millions of jobs and add more than a $1 trillion to the economy each year.
Putting up extra red tape for LWCF projects will only hurt local jobs, our economy and America's natural areas. Congress must protect LWCF funding that is congressionally mandated for acquiring new public lands, safeguarding our natural areas and defending our outdoor heritage.
