Event Details

The Nature Conservancy in Oregon is leading a public BioBlitz as part of the 2026 City Nature Challenge taking place from April 24–27.

The City Nature Challenge is an exhilarating community-science event aimed at observing and documenting as much plant and wildlife diversity as possible over a 4-day period. Originally hosted by the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County in 2016 as a friendly competition between Los Angeles and San Francisco, the challenge has since grown exponentially, with more communities joining every year. In 2025, more than 102,945 individuals made 3,310,131 observations, both as groups and individuals, using the iNaturalist app, a free tool available on both Apple and Android devices. Don't worry if you don't have a smartphone; you can also use a digital camera to capture observations for uploading to the website.

During our event, we'll utilize the user-friendly iNaturalist app to photograph and identify the flora and fauna we encounter to collect valuable urban biodiversity data while having a chance to visit a special nature preserve.

While this event is free, registration is required, and space is limited to a maximum of 15 attendees.

Additional information:
  • Parental or guardian permission is required for all minors, who must be accompanied by an adult.
