The Nature Conservancy's West Texas Springs Tour is a day tour of our Diamond Y Spring and Sandia Springs Preserves.
Diamond Y Spring Preserve is a 4,099-acre property that protects one of the largest and last remaining ciénega systems in West Texas. It provides habitat for 7 federally endangered or threatened species, such as the Leon Springs Pupfish, Pecos Sunflower, and the Gonzalez Springsnail.
Sandia Springs Preserve is a 282-acre preserve that hosts East and West Sandia Springs, 2 of the 6 freshwater springs that make up the larger Balmorhea Springs Complex. Our Sandia Springs Preserve is home to another 7 federally endangered or threatened species including the Comanche Springs Pupfish, the Phantom Cave Springsnail, and the Pecos gambusia, a type of mosquitofish.
We are offering special, led tours of these two beautiful preserves. The tour will consist of easy walking and driving on both preserves.
REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS: Registration is required.
VEHICLE REQUIRMENTS: A high clearance vehicle is REQUIRED for this tour (8 in clearance minimum).
VISITOR CAPACITY: Each day tour will consist of 30 guests.
TARGET AUDIENCE: Adults.
WHEN: The West Texas Springs Tour will start at 8:00am near Fort Stockton, TX and end around 2:00pm at our Sandia Springs Preserve near Balmorhea, TX on Friday, October 2, 2026.

COST: This event is FREE.
Please note:
- NO PETS
- Bring plenty of WATER and a SACK LUNCH. Pack everything in/out
- Bring binoculars, if you have them!
- Snake guards or snake boots are recommended but not necessary
- Drones are not permitted
- Cell service is spotty on the preserve
- Close-toed shoes and pants recommended
- There is NO restroom available on either preserve; however, we will stop for restrooms in Fort Stockton.
