Tell Congress: Protect Conservation Funding

President Trump’s latest federal budget proposal once again calls for drastically cutting the critical funding required to preserve our lands and waters, safeguard vulnerable species, protect our cities and public health and reduce risks from extreme weather events.

Some of the most troubling proposals in President Trump’s budget include a 26 percent cut to the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget and a 16 percent reduction in the Department of the Interior’s budget.

While the budget would increase funding for the National Wildlife Refuge System as well as support reductions in hazardous fuels that can drive wildfires, it also proposes cutting funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund by 97 percent and zeroes out funding for the Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy.

We can’t protect the air we breathe, the water we drink and our nation’s incredible natural places unless we keep essential conservation and environmental funding off the chopping block.

Together, we must call on members of Congress to ensure that vital programs are funded to the strongest levels possible.

Because gutting funding for conservation doesn’t just hurt wildlife and natural treasures — it harms local communities and our national economy.
